Sepilok & Kinabatangan River Cruise (Sukau) 4 Days / 3 Nights

Day 1                           Sandakan - Sepilok (L/D)

Pick up from Sandakan airport / hotel and visit the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary where captive orangutans are reintroduced into the wild. You will be able to observe them at their feeding stations in the rainforest and at the nursery (if open). Watch the feeding session at 1000 hours. Then proceed to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC). This centre rescues captured sun bears and is involved in sun bear conservation, welfare rehabilitation and education. Over 30 sun bears live at the centre in the bear house and outdoor enclosures. 11.45 hours depart the BSBCC and proceed to MY Nature Resort. This resort is set in 25 acres of rainforest bordering the Sepilok forest reserve, a protected area rich in wildlife. Have lunch and check-in to the resort. Afternoon is free at leisure. Relax, swim in the pool or walk (5-10 minutes) to the nearby Rainforest Discovery Centre and experience the canopy walkway, one of the best in Malaysia. Dinner and overnight at MY Nature Resort.

Note: The nursery at Sepilok is sometimes closed to visitors. This occurs if any of the young orangutan are sick. As such there is no guarantee that the nursery will be open.

Day 2                           Sepilok – Kinabatangan River – Sukau - Menanggul River (L/D)

Breakfast in the resort. Morning is free at leisure. Relax, swim in the pool or go for a walk on the resort’s own 1,050 metre long boardwalk. 11.00-1115 hours depart MY Nature Resort and proceed to a boat jetty in Sandakan. 1145 – 1200 hours depart for a 1-hour boat cruise up the Lower Kinabatangan River, passing pristine mangrove forests and searching for wildlife. Arrive at Abai Jungle Restaurant and have lunch. Continue by boat to Sukau and after check-in go on a river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to the Menanggul River in search proboscis monkeys, birds, reptiles and other wildlife. Overnight stay at the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge.

Day 3                           Oxbow Lake - Menanggul River - Sukau (B/L/D)

0630 hours take a boat trip for bird watching and wildlife viewing at the nearby Ox Bow Lake. Weather permitting trek the lush riverine forest along the lake and then return to the lodge for breakfast. Free at leisure to relax. 1630 hours venture on another river cruise down the Menanggul River in search of wildlife. Return to the lodge at dusk. Evening at leisure. Overnight at the Kinabatangan Riverside lodge.

Day 4                           Sukau - Abai – Sandakan (B/L)

After breakfast depart the lodge at 0700 hours and return to Sandakan by boat. The 2½ hour journey offers another chance to see wildlife. Around 0830 hours stop at Abai Jungle Lodge for a short break before continuing your journey downriver. Arrive at Sandakan jetty and transfer to your hotel or airport.
