Sepilok & Kinabatangan River Cruise (Abai) 4D3N

Day 1 Sandakan - Sepilok (L/D)

Pick up from Sandakan airport / hotel and visit the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary where captive orangutans are reintroduced into the wild. You will be able to observe them at their feeding stations in the rainforest and at the nursery (if open). Watch the feeding session at 1000 hours. Then proceed to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC). This centre rescues captured sun bears and is involved in sun bear conservation, welfare rehabilitation and education. Over 30 sun bears live at the centre in the bear house and outdoor enclosures. 11.45 hours depart the BSBCC and proceed to MY Nature Resort. This resort is set in 25 acres of rainforest bordering the Sepilok forest reserve, a protected area rich in wildlife. Have lunch and check-in to the resort. Afternoon is free at leisure. Relax, swim in the pool or walk (5-10 minutes) to the nearby Rainforest Discovery Centre and experience the canopy walkway, one of the best in Malaysia. Dinner and overnight at MY Nature Resort.

Note: The nursery at Sepilok is sometimes closed to visitors. This occurs if any of the young orangutan are sick. As such there is no guarantee that the nursery will be open.

Day 2 Sepilok – Kinabatangan River - Abai (L/D)

Breakfast in the resort. Morning is free at leisure. Relax, swim in the pool or go for a walk on the resort’s own 1,050 metre long boardwalk. 11.00-1115 hours depart MY Nature Resort and proceed to a boat jetty in Sandakan. 1145 – 1200 hours depart for a 1-hour boat cruise up the Lower Kinabatangan River, passing pristine mangrove forests and searching for wildlife. Arrive at Abai Jungle Lodge and have lunch.  Free to relax or explore the surrounding area on the nature boardwalk. 1630 hours go on a cruise in search of proboscis monkeys, birds, reptiles and other wildlife. As night falls witness the glittering of fireflies on the mangrove trees. Return to the lodge for dinner.  After dinner, go on a guided night walk around the Lodge’s nature boardwalk and search for insects, birds and other wildlife. Overnight at the Abai Jungle Lodge.

Day 3 Pitas Lake – Abai Village (B/L/D)

0630 hours take another boat trip for bird watching and wildlife viewing at the nearby Pitas Lake. Then return to the lodge for breakfast. Visit the nearby Abai village and participate in a tree planting project. Lunch will be served together with one of the families (optional). Return to the lodge, free at leisure to relax or explore the boardwalk and search for wildlife. 1630 hours go on another cruise along the Kinabatangan River in search of wildlife. Return to lodge for dinner. Overnight at the Abai Jungle Lodge.

Day 4 Abai - Kinabatangan River – Sandakan (B/L)

After breakfast depart Abai at 0900 hours and take a 1-hour boat cruise down the Kinabatangan River to Sandakan. Arrive at Sandakan jetty and transfer to your hotel or airport.
