Sepilok Wildlife Experience 3D2N

Day 1  Sepilok Orangutan Centre -  Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre  (L/D)

Pickup from Sandakan airport and proceed to Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary where captive orangutans are reintroduced into the wild. You will be able to observe them at their feeding stations in the rainforest and at the nursery (if open). Watch the feeding session at 1000 hours. Then proceed to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC). This centre rescues captured sun bears and is involved in sun bear conservation, welfare rehabilitation and education. Over 30 sun bears live at the centre in the bear house and outdoor enclosures. 1115 hours depart the BSBCC and proceed to MY Nature Resort for lunch. This resort is set in 25 acres of rainforest bordering the Sepilok forest reserve, a protected area rich in wildlife. Check in to your chalet and have lunch at the resort’s restaurant. Then free at leisure to relax in the resort’s rainforest setting or have a swim in the pool.

Red giant flying squirrels are resident within the grounds of MY Nature Resort. They come out almost every night but sightings are not guaranteed.   Head to the platform near the restaurant before 1800 hours. Resort staff will point out which trees the squirrels sleep in and let you know when they start to come out of their hiding places. If you are lucky watch the giant squirrels emerge from their nests and glide across the sky. After dinner go on guided night walk on the resort’s boardwalk. Overnight at MY Nature Resort.

Note: The nursery at Sepilok is sometimes closed to visitors. This occurs if any of the young orangutan are sick. As such there is no guarantee that the nursery will be open.

Day 2 Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary -  Rainforest Discovery Centre (B/L)

Breakfast at the resort. Rest of the morning is free at leisure. After lunch proceed to Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary for the 1430 hours feeding session. This privately run sanctuary is located within an oil palm estate and offers a unique chance to see proboscis monkeys. These monkeys are wild but habituated and often get very close to visitors. The proboscis monkeys at Labuk Bay live in a fragmented habitat surrounded by an oil palm plantation. As there is insufficient food the monkeys receive a supplementary diet. As feeding time nears groups of proboscis monkeys from the nearby forest and mangroves head to the wooden platform for a free meal. Labuk Bay offers a unique opportunity to get close to these normally shy creatures. Silver leaf monkeys are hornbills are sometimes seen near the feeding platform.

Around 1530 hours depart the sanctuary and proceed to the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC), an education centre located within the Kabili Sepilok Forest Reserve. The focus of this excursion is to experience the rainforest from high. Arrive at the RDC and have a quick look at the visitor information centre before walking to the centre’s 147 metres long canopy walkway, which is up to 28 metres above the forest floor in places. The walkway and towers offer a unique way of seeing Sabah’s rainforest and are an excellent place for bird watching. Over 250 species of birds are found here. 1715-1730 hours return to MY Nature Resort. Before dinner head to the flying squirrel platform to see if the red giant flying squirrels emerge from their nests and fly across the resort. Dinner and overnight at MY Nature Resort.

Day 3  MY Nature Resort -   Depart (B/L)

Enjoy breakfast overlooking the rainforest then free at leisure for the rest of the morning.  If you have subsequent tour to the Kinabatangan River (Abai or Sukau), depart the resort at 1100 hours and transfer to the Sandakan boat jetty. For those departing Sandakan later that day enjoy, lunch at the resort and then transfer to the airport.
